ERIA President Highlights ASEAN’s Readiness for the Quantum Era

Johor Bahru, 11 December 2025: ERIA President Tetsuya Watanabe participated in the ASEAN Quantum Summit 2025 in Johor Bahru, delivering welcoming remarks at the Regional Quantum Ecosystem Meeting.

President Watanabe described the Summit as an important milestone in ASEAN's collective efforts to prepare for the quantum era. He highlighted the transformative potential of quantum technologies to reshape global economic structures and create new industrial opportunities, underscoring their strategic importance for ASEAN's long-term competitiveness and sustainable development.

He emphasised that achieving quantum readiness will require ASEAN to focus on practical use cases and real-world applications, alongside sustained investment in human capital development. Strengthened regional co-operation and deeper partnerships with ASEAN Dialogue Partners were also identified as essential to building a robust quantum ecosystem in the region.

President Watanabe reaffirmed ERIA's commitment to supporting ASEAN and its partners in advancing quantum technologies as part of the region's broader digital transformation agenda.
