NEMA Releases 2026 Policy Agenda for Powering America’s Energy and Manufacturing Future

ARLINGTON, Va. - The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) today released the electroindustry's 2026 policy agenda, which outlines actionable steps the Administration, Congress, and state lawmakers can take to strengthen U.S. manufacturing, accelerate infrastructure deployment, and power the next era of American growth.

NEMA's 2026 agenda focuses on what is needed now: expanding and upgrading the grid, building more electrical equipment in the United States, and developing the skilled workforce required for the next generation of advanced manufacturing.

"For 100 years, the electroindustry has built the systems and technologies that power American homes, businesses, and industry and make modern life possible," said NEMA President and CEO Debra Phillips. "We look forward to continuing our work with policymakers at all levels of government to ensure that America's electrical system remains safe, reliable, and affordable as demand surges."

NEMA's more than 300 members contribute a full 1% of U.S. GDP, directly provide more than 580,000 American jobs, and generate more than $330 billion annually for the U.S. economy. NEMA's 2026 Agenda outlines a suite of policy recommendations that are vital to electroindustry growth and competitiveness:

  • Modernize and expand the grid to meet surging power demand
  • Align trade policy to fortify the North American electrical ecosystem
  • Scale world-class American electrical manufacturing
  • Build a skilled workforce for the next-generation energy system
  • Establish state policies that power energy infrastructure and manufacturing

"Since 2018, the electrical manufacturing industry has invested nearly $200 billion in domestic production capacity - and plans to invest another $60 billion over the next five years," said NEMA Senior Vice President of Public Affairs Spencer Pederson. "Policy decisions made today will determine how quickly the industry can deliver the equipment and technologies needed to support growth - from distribution transformers and switchgear, electrical wire and cable, connected building systems and controls, to electric motors and other advanced technologies. NEMA and its members are committed to working with policymakers to keep America competitive."
