Reed Statement on SCOTUS Upholding Birthright Citizenship & Blocking Trump Order

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down President Trump's attempt to end so-called 'birthright citizenship' by executive order, U.S. Senator Jack Reed issued the following statement:

"The Supreme Court was right to uphold the Constitution and thwart President Trump's ploy to strip the right of citizenship from individuals born in the United States.

"Today the Supreme Court affirmed that President Trump cannot change the rules of naturalization and citizenship with the stroke of his pen.

"Instead of trying to take away legal rights and protections, the Trump Administration should work with Congress to ensure America lives up to its values and keeps its promise."
