287(g) partnership between ICE and MA Department of Corrections keeps criminal alien convicted of drug trafficking and weapons possession off the streets

WASHINGTON - On Oct. 28, ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston arrested Osiris Alexander Rodriguez-Guzman, a 31-year-old illegal alien from the Dominican Republic, following his five-year sentence for drug trafficking. Rodriguez's criminal history includes a conviction for trafficking 200 grams or more of fentanyl and possession of weapon.

"Rodriguez presented a significant threat to public safety and is subject to a final order of removal issued by an immigration judge," said acting ICE Director Todd M. Lyons. "Through the effective collaboration enabled by ICE's 287(g) Program partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Corrections, we were able to safely take him into custody. This arrest delivers a clear and unequivocal message to illegal aliens engaging in criminal activity within the United States: Sanctuary cities will not provide protection from U.S. laws. If you violate our laws, ICE will locate you and ensure you are brought to justice."

On April 22, 2022, the Lawrence District Court in Massachusetts formally charged Rodriguez with multiple offenses, including trafficking fentanyl, possession of a firearm during a felony, possession of a firearm without the required firearms identification card, improperly storage of a firearm, possession of ammunition without a license and possession of a large-capacity magazine.

Rodriguez unlawfully entered the United States on foot, from Mexico into Texas, around 2022 - under the Biden administration - without being admitted, inspected or paroled by an immigration official.

Following his arrest on Oct. 28, at the North Central Correctional Institution in Gardner, Massachusetts, ICE took Rodriguez into custody, where he'll remain pending his removal to the Dominican Republic.
