Scholarships can open doors, create opportunities, and change the trajectory of a student's life. That message resonated throughout the evening at the University of Maryland's second annual Investing in Excellence event, held April 21, 2026, at the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center.
Hosted by the Robert H. Smith School of Business, the event brought together scholarship donors, students, alumni, faculty, and university leaders to celebrate the transformative impact of investing in education. For students, the evening offered an opportunity to meet the individuals and organizations whose generosity helped make their educational journeys possible.
For Keystone, the evening carried a special significance. In honor of the parents of Keystone CEO Promod Sharma, the Raj and Savitri Foundation provides an annual scholarship to a business student at the Smith School. The scholarship reflects the Sharma family's belief in the importance of education and in creating opportunities for the next generation.
Keystone was represented at the event by Promod Sharma, Jyoti Mahajan, and Bakul Chibber. For Bakul, a Smith School alumnus, the evening brought together his personal connection to the University of Maryland with Keystone's commitment to supporting students and expanding opportunity.
Hearing directly from scholarship recipients and alumni made the impact of that support especially meaningful. Their stories offered a firsthand look at how educational opportunities can shape careers, open new possibilities, and create lasting connections.
The scale of that impact extends well beyond any individual scholarship. Smith School leaders noted that the school awarded more than $6 million in undergraduate and graduate scholarships during the 2025-26 academic year, reflecting a broad community of donors committed to investing in the future of its students.
For Keystone, supporting scholarships is one way we invest in people and in the opportunities that help future leaders reach their potential. We are proud to honor the legacy of Raj and Savitri Sharma while supporting the next generation of business leaders through the University of Maryland's Smith School of Business.
