Window Shopping Woes: Trump Administration Hides the Sticker Shock of Trump’s Health Care Affordability Crisis Arrow

In less than a week, the annual Affordable Care Act Open Enrollment will begin, and Americans will choose their health care plans for the year. However, the Trump administration is refusing to set a timetable for customers to browse health plans - keeping Americans in the dark about the extent of rising health care premiums, rather than providing transparency about the consequences of Republicans' health care crisis.

The most popular plans on Healthcare.gov have already spiked an average of 30%, reflecting the largest annual premium increases by far in recent years. In addition to those purchasing plans through the ACA, families with employer-sponsored plans are facing sharp increases in their health care costs next year.

On the 27th day of Trump's government shutdown, Trump and Republicans in Congress continue to refuse to come to the negotiating table to reopen the government and avoid a crisis that will spike health care costs for over 22 million Americans by an average of 114%.

In response, DNC Communications Director Rosemary Boeglin released the following statement:

"With only days left until Open Enrollment, we are nearing the point of no return for fixing the looming health care crisis that will cause health care premiums to skyrocket for millions of Americans - and now Trump is trying to hide how he's jacked up costs for Americans. Instead of stepping up to intervene, Trump is hosting high-dollar fundraisers. Trump can try to hide the truth, but there's no getting around the reality that many families will be forced to break the bank to afford health care - or will lose health care entirely if Republicans get their way. Working families can't afford Trump's economy - inflation is up, groceries are unaffordable, and health care is treated like a luxury instead of a necessity. This is Trump's crisis, and he is already owning the fallout: Working families know they are footing the bill for Trump's failed policies that only serve him and his billionaire friends."
