Norfolk Southern Rail Project to Impact Greensboro Traffic

Norfolk Southern's rail replacement project along the NC Railroad corridor will continue next week, with work progressing from Wagoner Bend Road toward Elm Street.

Current and upcoming closures for the Week of October 5:

  • Wagoner Bend Road, Ward Road, and O'Ferrell Street are currently closed. The crossings are expected to reopen for the weekend, then close again on Monday, October 5.
  • Additional closures are expected at Franklin Boulevard, Lowdermilk Street, Pine Street, Holts Chapel Road, South English Street, Gillespie Street, Dudley Street, and Elm Street. Multiple crossings may be closed at the same time. No traffic will be permitted through these crossings while work is underway.
  • On Tuesday, October 6, expect rolling lane closures on US 29 and a full closure on Benbow Road as rail equipment moves through the corridor.

Scheduled work is subject to weather and crew, equipment and track time availability and is subject to change. Drivers should follow posted detour signs and allow additional travel time.

Updates will be shared through ncrr.com/cappfi-new-rail/, www.greensboro-nc.gov/railproject, and on the City's social media platforms.
