WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawai'i), Ranking Member of Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations, today released the following statement on the Trump administration's fiscal year 2027 budget request, which proposes slashing critical investments in lifesaving foreign assistance.
"The Trump administration's budget proposal is simply that - a proposal. It has no force of law, and it will not become law. The proposal calls for steep cuts to lifesaving assistance and critical efforts that advance American interests around the world. That's not going to happen.
"In FY26, Congress, on a bipartisan basis, made investments that will save lives, strengthen our alliances and partnerships to confront pressing challenges, rebuild American competitiveness, and make Americans safer at home. We will do so again."
