By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:
Virginia Blood Donation Day
WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia is committed to ensuring the safety and security of our citizens and visitors; and
WHEREAS, health care facilities in Virginia serve a population of over 8 million people in 133 cities and counties; and
WHEREAS, sufficient donations of blood are essential to public health both locally and nationally, and our hospitals and medical centers need a readily available supply to save lives; and
WHEREAS, one blood donation can help save up to three lives, and although many people in the United States are eligible to donate, only about 3 percent donate each year; and
WHEREAS, eligible donors can make a whole blood donation every 56 days, making it possible to help save as many as 18 lives in one year; and
WHEREAS, blood donation is a quick and relatively painless heroic act that saves lives and supports communities; and
WHEREAS, Virginia Blood Donation Day serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing need to replenish our blood supply through community-driven donations and honors the generosity of donors whose selfless acts inspire others to join this life-saving mission;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize September 4, 2025, as BLOOD DONATION DAY in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
