City of St. Louis Seeking Public Input on Plans to Replace Loughborough Bridge

The City of St. Louis is seeking public input on potential impacts to Carondelet Park and the Carondelet Connector Trail as part of the replacement of the Loughborough Bridge over the Union Pacific Railroad just to the west of Interstate 55. The bridge was built in the 1950s and needs to be brought up to current standards to meet traffic and safety needs.

Comments can be submitted on the project website until December 19, 2025.

The upgrade of the Loughborough Bridge will increase and improve mobility, safety and access for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.

The bridge carries over 20,000 cars a day and is vital to connecting residents and visitors to the park, neighborhood resources and businesses.

The new bridge will be a single-span structure with a shared-use path and new sidewalks. The Carondelet Connector Trail is expected to remain open during the majority of construction, with only brief closures for specific construction activities.

The project is expected to be done in conjunction with the Missouri Department of Transportation's replacement of the Loughborough Bridge over I-55. Both projects are expected to begin in fall 2027 and be completed in fall 2029.
