Ranking Member Subramanyam Statement on House GOP Blocking War Powers Resolution Vote

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Representative Suhas Subramanyam (VA-10), Ranking Member of the Military and Foreign Affairs Oversight Subcommittee, released the following statement after pushing for an immediate vote on a War Powers Resolution:

"I showed up today because this war needs to end. President Trump got us into this war without authorization from Congress or buy-in from the American people. 13 Americans have lost their lives and hundreds have been wounded. Trump has spent billions in taxpayer dollars while alienating our closest allies.

The situation with Iran is worse than when this war started. Control of the Strait of Hormuz is in Iran's hands and the region and world are less stable. Iranian leadership is now younger and more radical, and any goodwill we had with the Iranian people has been lost.

The President agreed to a tenuous ceasefire with questionable terms, and this isn't good enough. We tried to pass a War Powers Resolution unanimously today and House Republicans blocked it. The full Congress must come back to DC right now to vote on Trump's war of choice and rein in his actions."

Rep. Subramanyam is a co-sponsor of the War Powers Resolution.
