Yaw, Argall to Host Public Hearing on Higher Education and Workforce Development

WILLIAMSPORT - The importance of collaborations between higher education institutions and workforce development initiatives will be explored at a public hearing of the Senate Majority Policy Committee on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 10 a.m. at Lycoming College's Mary Lindsay Welch Honors Hall.

Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) invited the committee, chaired by Sen. Dave Argall (R-29), to hold this hearing in Williamsport because both Lycoming College and Penn College have strong traditions of focusing on ensuring that students are career-ready when they graduate.

"There is no better place to examine the connection between higher education and workforce development than Lycoming County, where institutions like Penn College and Lycoming College are preparing students to meet employer needs and drive Pennsylvania's economic competitiveness," Yaw said. "A strong and skilled workforce is the foundation of our future, and I appreciate Sen. Argall and the committee for taking on this issue."

"Preparing students for the workforce is one of the most important responsibilities of our colleges and universities," said Argall. "I look forward to learning more about how our institutions of higher education are building pipelines to connect their students with the jobs of tomorrow."

Panelists will include higher education leaders, students, and business and labor union representatives. The hearing will be livestreamed on the committee's website.
