FLOWOOD, Miss. - The Department of the Interior is advancing American Energy Dominance by transferring a 3-acre parcel in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, to support development of a new liquefied natural gas hub along the Gulf Coast. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum signed Public Land Order 7969, officially transferring management of the land to the Bureau of Land Management.
The parcel, located at the mouth of the Calcasieu River, was used by the United States Coast Guard as a lighthouse beacon, later known as Calcasieu Radio Beacon Station, since 1875, and is no longer needed.
The parcel is being considered for noncompetitive direct land sale for no less than appraised fair market value to Cameron Land Ventures LLC, an affiliate of Venture Global LNG, Inc. The company plans to develop a facility to provide infrastructure for the liquefaction, onsite storage, and export transport of natural gas.
"This proposed land sale helps advance American Energy Dominance by meeting energy infrastructure needs, while supporting transparency and a fair return to the public," said Acting BLM Southeastern States District Manager Shayne Banks.
The island was analyzed and determined suitable to be returned as public lands. The public land order and the proposed direct land sale support Executive Orders 14154 and 14156, as well as Secretary's Order 3418, Declaring a National Energy Emergency and Unleashing American Energy. These efforts also align with administration priorities to cut red tape, streamline the environmental review process, and expand supply chain capacity.
