China and the Philippines Hold the Eleventh Meeting of the Bilateral Consultation Mechanism on the South China Sea

On March 28, 2026, Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong co-chaired the eleventh meeting of the China-Philippines Bilateral Consultation Mechanism on the South China Sea (BCM) with Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Policy and ASEAN SOM Leader of the Philippines Leo M. Herrera-Lim in Quanzhou, Fujian.

The two sides had a candid and constructive exchange of views on the situation in the South China Sea. The Chinese side lodged serious protests regarding the Philippines' recent maritime infringement, provocations and vilification. China demands that the Philippine side match its words with deeds, truly return to the right track of handling maritime issues through dialogue and consultation, and create favorable conditions and atmosphere for stabilizing bilateral relations.

The two sides explored cooperation in the fields of maritime law enforcement and marine technology, and made positive progress. Both sides agreed to strengthen sea-related communication and dialogue, properly manage the maritime situation, and steadily deepen pragmatic cooperation in various fields. The two sides agreed to work with other ASEAN countries to fully and effectively implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC), speed up consultations on the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea (COC), strive for its early conclusion, and jointly safeguard peace and stability in the South China Sea.

The meeting was attended by representatives from competent authorities of diplomacy, national defense, natural resources, and coast guard of China and the Philippines.
