Project 24 August 2026 2 min

Nexans has been awarded a new Inspection, Maintenance & Repair (IMR) frame agreement by Svenska kraftnät, reinforcing its role in supporting the reliability of Sweden's critical power transmission infrastructure.

The multi-year agreement covers seven interconnections between Sweden and neighboring countries, spanning onshore, nearshore and offshore infrastructure, and approximately 1,000 km of cable.

Comprehensive repair scope across cable technologies

Under the agreement, Nexans will provide a full repair scope, including fault location, pinpointing, repair, protection and survey. The scope covers both MI and XLPE cable technologies, including Nexans and third-party cables.

A key part of the agreement is ensuring preparedness and the ability to respond rapidly when needed. Dedicated capabilities, including the Nexans Modular Repair Deck, will support efficient repair and restoration, helping Svenska kraftnät minimize downtime and maintain secure power flows across its transmission network.

The agreement includes two years of repair exclusivity, with an option to extend for an additional six years.

This contract is a strong testament to Svenska kraftnät's trust in Nexans' technological leadership and operational excellence. By combining our extensive extra-high-voltage cable expertise with robust IMR capabilities, we are proud to contribute to the reliability of Sweden's power transmission network.

Supporting critical infrastructure beyond installation

The agreement underscores the importance of Nexans' capabilities across the full lifecycle of critical cable infrastructure. Nexans' expertise spans design and manufacturing, installation, and inspection, maintenance and repair, helping transmission system operators keep essential power connections reliable and resilient throughout their operational lifetime.

It also reinforces Nexans' position as a long-term partner to transmission system operators worldwide, combining cable technology expertise with the operational capabilities required to respond when critical infrastructure needs it most.
