Active-duty members of the U.S. Armed Forces, veterans and their dependents who need individualized, in-person assistance on services available to the military-connected can find out more at Cameron University's annual Military Veterans Resource Fair scheduled for later this week in Lawton.
Coordinated by CU Veterans Affairs, the event takes place from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, April 8-9. In conjunction with the resource fair, Cameron will host a one-day Vet Fest on April 9. Both events take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the McMahon Centennial Complex and are open to the public.
The resource fair takes place on the first floor of the McMahon Centennial Complex. Multiple federal, state and local organizations will participate be on hand to provide one-stop access to a variety of services for veterans, active-duty military and dependents.
Among organizations present will be the Fort Sill Military Services Coordinator, Compensation and Pension, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as the Lawton Vet Center and Mobile Van. Employment information will be available through Oklahoma Works. Veterans service organizations such as the Comanche County Veterans Council, the American Legion, VFW Posts 5263 and 1193, and the Oklahoma Women Veterans Organization are also scheduled to attend. Redlands Veterans Upward Bound will have representatives at the resource fair on Wednesday only.
A number of community organizations, including the Red Cord, Paws with Love Therapy Dogs, Inc., and CU's George D. Keathley Department of Military Science will also send representatives. Medicine Park Aquarium and Nature Center will visit both days from 10:30 a.m. until noon, bringing along a mystery guest.
Vet Fest will take place Thursday on the second floor of the McMahon Centennial Complex and will consist of a local community engagement event with the VA Oklahoma City Healthcare System. It will showcase a wide range of health and support services for veterans, active-duty military, their families and caregivers.
On hand will be healthcare specialists in several program areas, including VA Health Care Enrollment, eligibility, ID cards, My HealtheVet, the M2VA Post 9/11 Military 2VA Case Management Program, a VA Compensation and Pension representative, the Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs, and a representative from VA Suicide Prevention.
The McMahon Centennial Complex is located at University Drive and D Avenue in Lawton. Visitor parking is available directly across the street.
