PHOENIX - Today the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) PAC, the nation's largest LGBTQ+ civil rights organization, announced its endorsement of Amish Shah for U.S. House in Arizona's 1st Congressional District. A victory by Dr. Shah in November is essential to securing a pro-equality majority in Congress to combat the authoritarian, discriminatory policies of the Trump administration.
"Arizonans deserve a champion who will fight for equality and address the real issues that impact the lives of those in the state's 1st Congressional District. Dr. Shah is that champion," said HRC President Kelley Robinson. "Dr. Shah will bring his experience, allyship and voice to Congress at a pivotal moment in our fight for our rights and freedoms. The Human Rights Campaign is proud to endorse his candidacy and to work to get him elected this November."
"I'm honored to have the endorsement of the Human Rights Campaign," said Dr. Amish Shah. "I'm a longtime ally of Arizona's LGBTQ+ community. I was proud to fight for the community in my time in the State House, and I look forward to continuing to fight for the rights and freedoms of LGBTQ+ Arizonans In Congress."
Dr. Amish Shah is an emergency medicine doctor and previously served in Arizona's state legislature for five years. During his time as a public servant, Dr. Shah focused on increasing teacher pay, supporting small businesses and improving public health and safety. As part of his platform, Dr. Shah aims to lower costs for hardworking Arizonans, protect Medicare and Medicaid and fight for abortion rights.
An Opponent with an Anti-Equality Record
Dr. Amish Shah is running against Trump-endorsed and MAGA extremist Jay Feely, who wants to bring an appalling anti-equality agenda to Arizona's 1st Congressional District. Instead of making healthcare more accessible for Arizona residents, Feely supports Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill" which would increase the district's uninsured population by 31,000. Additionally, Feely has supported attempts to target healthcare access for trans kids, stooping to disturbing lows to target transgender people and peddle discrimination instead of creating viable plans to solve the real issues impacting Arizonans.
HRC's Commitment to Arizona
Equality Voters - including the more than 1.4 million in Arizona - are a powerful and diverse voting bloc united by support for LGBTQ+ equality. Equality Voters are younger, more racially diverse, and more female than the general electorate, and they recognize and trust the HRC brand. HRC PAC has made significant investments in Arizona over the years, working to mobilize those Equality Voters and elect pro-equality champions up and down the ballot.
Beyond its PAC's electoral efforts, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) continues to prioritize work in Arizona, having a staffed in-state program since 2018 and working alongside a number of other in-state advocacy groups to defeat anti-LGBTQ+ state and local legislation and policies.
