Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Kong Xianhua Attends Launch Ceremony of CNY Account Services at Bank of Maldives

On September 22, Ambassador Kong Xianhua attended the Launch Ceremony of CNY account services at the Bank of Maldives. Chairman Mr. Ahmed Ali Habeeb and CEO Mr. Mohamed Shareef of the Bank of Maldives, as well as Counselor Mr. Zhang Xu of the Chinese Embassy, were present.

The Bank of Maldives announced the official launch of CNY account services, along with the commencement of Trade including Inward and Outward Remittances to China in RMB. The bank also plans to issue UnionPay cards starting in 2026.

In his remarks, Ambassador Kong highlighted that the launch of CNY accounts at the Bank of Maldives is an important step to advance local currency settlement and a solid measure to support the implementation of the China-Maldives Free Trade Agreement. With more initiatives to be introduced, financial cooperation between China and the Maldives will achieve higher-quality development, further promoting deeper economic integration and shared prosperity between the two countries.
