Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department, alongside members of the Old Trail neighborhood community, proudly unveiled the new sign for Ilene Long Old Trail Park during a special ceremony at the park held on June 8, 2026, located at 2739 Old Military Trail.
The event brought together residents, community leaders and c ounty staff to honor the life and legacy of Ilene Long, a dedicated advocate and founder of the Old Trail Neighborhood Watch, who passed away in May 2025 at the age of 88.
A resident of the neighborhood since the 1940s, Long was widely recognized as a driving force behind many of the community's most meaningful improvements. She worked closely with local law enforcement and the County's Community Revitalization Team, helping to enhance safety and connectivity throughout the neighborhood. Her efforts contributed to the installation of street lighting, the organization of annual community cleanups and barbecues , and the continued growth of neighborhood engagement.
Long also played a key role in advocating for the park that now bears her name, a beloved gathering place for families and residents of all ages. She regularly attended c ounty meetings, hosted neighborhood discussions , and built strong relationships with Palm Beach County staff to ensure the needs of her community were met.
The renaming of the park serves as a lasting tribute to her decades of service and commitment to improving the lives of those around her.
