September 12, 2025 - The City of Midland is excited to announce that it has recognized Director of Water Services Peter Schwarz as its latest recipient of a City Strive Award.
Schwarz received the Stewardship Award, which recognizes an individual for the responsible and efficient use of tax dollars and/or as an effective manager and protector of our natural resources in a way that represents the best interests of the community and sustainability for the future.
Schwarz was nominated for this award by Assistant City Manager Chris Saladine for his effort in handling a recent PFAS settlement. "While most municipalities hired consultants to complete the required documentation and settlement submissions, Peter handled all of the information gathering and submissions himself. This effort saved the City approximately 25% of the total settlement-equating to hundreds of thousands of dollars," said Saladine. "Peter's work directly ensured that more resources remain within the City, where they can benefit Midland's residents and businesses."
Peter Schwarz has worked for the City since 2004.
"Peter's decision to manage the settlement process internally saved the City a significant amount of money," said City Manager Brad Kaye. "His initiative and resourcefulness perfectly exemplify what the Stewardship Award stands for. We're grateful to have Peter on our team."
