Reps. Amo and Magaziner Welcome Leader Jeffries for a Celebration of Cabo Verde Community and Culture

PAWTUCKET, RI - YESTERDAY, Congressmen Gabe Amo (D-RI-01) and Seth Magaziner (D-RI-02) and members of the Rhode Island Cabo Verdean community welcomed Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY-08) to celebrate the culture, community, and contributions of Cabo Verdean Americans. Leader Jeffries, the highest-ranking Cabo Verdean elected official in American history, has family roots in Fogo, Cabo Verde. Rhode Island is home to the largest per-capita Cabo Verdean population in the United States, and generations of Cabo Verdean Americans have helped shape the state's neighborhoods, economy, culture, and civic life.

The event brought together Rhode Island leaders and members of the Cabo Verdean community to honor the community's history and look toward the future of the relationship between Rhode Island, Cabo Verde, and the United States.

"I'm proud of my family's Cabo Verdean heritage, anchored in the enduring connection between New England and Cabo Verde. The Cabo Verdean community is an incredible part of the gorgeous mosaic of America and the history of Rhode Island," said Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY). "It was an honor and a privilege to spend some time with this incredibly vibrant and dynamic community in Pawtucket and I am thankful to Representatives Amo and Magaziner for their warm welcome."
