Amid Skyrocketing Costs & Potential Government Shutdown, House Republicans are Refusing to Show Up for Work Arrow

We are on the brink of a government shutdown thanks to Congressional Republicans and Donald Trump. Until the very last moment, Trump and Republicans have refused to negotiate with Democrats. Now, House Republicans won't even show up for work.

House Democrats are here in D.C., ready to work to avert a shutdown and protect health care for millions of Americans. They've put forward commonsense proposals to prevent health care costs from skyrocketing, rural hospitals from shutting down, and millions from losing insurance as a result of Republicans' cruel choice to give tax breaks to billionaires while gutting health care and raising costs on working families. Meanwhile, House Republicans are sitting at home collecting six-figure, taxpayer-funded salaries and refusing to do their jobs.

Reminder: Republicans knowingly caused this health care crisis by passing an extreme, billionaire-first agenda earlier this summer that gutted health care to fund tax breaks for the ultrawealthy. The consequences will be dire if they don't work with Democrats to stop this crisis.

  • Over 22 million Americans are at risk of skyrocketing premiums, with an average increase in out-of-pocket costs of 75%.
  • More than 15 million Americans will lose health care thanks to Trump's Billionaire-First Budget Bill.
  • Hospitals across the country are closing or reducing services because of Republicans' Medicaid cuts.
