Sentencing in Fraudulent Marriage License and Estate Theft Case

Concord, NH - Attorney General John M. Formella announces that Wendy Leedberg-Snow, age 60, of Nashua, New Hampshire has been sentenced in Cheshire County Superior Court after pleading guilty to charges stemming from a scheme to create a fraudulent marriage certificate following the death of her longtime partner and to obtain property from his estate.

As part of a negotiated resolution, Leedberg-Snow pleaded guilty to felony counts of Solicitation to Commit Vital Records Fraud, Title Fraud, Theft by Misapplication of Property, and Witness Tampering. She was sentenced to serve seven days in the House of Corrections, ordered to pay $4,600 in restitution to the victim's trust, and required to return a pickup truck and trailer belonging to the estate. She was also sentenced to two years of probation upon her release from incarceration and risks the imposition of a suspended sentence of up to 3 ½ to 7 years in the New Hampshire State Prison if she fails to be of good behavior or comply with the terms of her sentences.

"This case involved a deliberate effort to manipulate official government records and exploit the death of a loved one for personal financial gain," said Attorney General Formella. "Our vital records system depends on honesty and integrity, and those who seek to corrupt that system will be held accountable. I want to thank the investigators and prosecutors whose work ensured justice for the victim's family."

The investigation established that after Eric Leedberg's death in October 2023, Leedberg-Snow participated in creating a fraudulent marriage certificate that falsely represented the couple had been legally married prior to his death. She subsequently used that false claim to obtain property belonging to Mr. Leedberg's estate. During the investigation, Leedberg-Snow also attempted to influence a witness connected to the fraudulent marriage certificate.

A co-defendant, Winchester Town Clerk Jim Tetreault, previously pleaded guilty to Notarial Misconduct for his role in falsifying the marriage certificate. He was sentenced in April 2025 and resigned from his former position as a Justice of the Peace.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Nancy A. DeAngelis and investigated by Jennifer L. DiGeorge, both of the Elder Abuse and Financial Exploitation Unit.
