Congressman Don Davis Celebrates North Carolina-Grown Turkeys at Annual White House Thanksgiving Tradition

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Don Davis (NC-01) celebrates North Carolina's proud role in one of our nation's most time-honored holiday customs: the National Thanksgiving Turkey Presentation at the White House. 2025's distinguished birds, Gobble and Waddle, were born in Wayne County and raised by Butterball contract grower Travis Pittman and his family in Kenly, North Carolina.
"These turkeys represent the very best of eastern North Carolina - hard work, family, and the deep agricultural tradition that helps feed our nation," said Congressman Davis. "From our farmers and producers, to the folks who work year-round to bring food to the table, this moment is a celebration of their dedication. Eastern North Carolina is proud to help carry on this uniquely American tradition."
Gobble and Waddle received their official Thanksgiving pardons during the annual ceremony at the White House before heading back home to North Carolina. The Pittman family - Travis, his wife Amanda, and their young son Carter - raised and prepared the turkeys for their national debut, ensuring they were comfortable with people, cameras, and the excitement of the ceremony.
After their time in Washington, the turkeys will retire under the expert care of the Prestage Department of Poultry Science at North Carolina State University, where they will serve as agricultural education ambassadors and highlight North Carolina's leadership as the nation's second-largest turkey-producing state.
"The story of Gobble and Waddle reminds us that Thanksgiving is about gratitude for the farmers, workers, and communities who make all this possible," said Congressman Davis. "Eastern North Carolina is proud to play such an important role in feeding families across America."
The National Thanksgiving Turkey Presentation dates back to President Harry Truman in 1947 and continues today as a cherished American tradition celebrated across administrations.
