NEW YORK, NY - American Ballet Theatre regrets to announce that Principal Dancer Cory Stearns will be unable to perform in Onegin on Tuesday, June 23 and Saturday, June 27 due to injury.
On June 23, the ballet will be led by Chloe Misseldine as Tatiana and Thomas Forster as Onegin. On the evening of June 27, Christine Shevchenko will dance the role of Tatiana opposite Jarod Curley in his debut as Onegin. For updated casting, please visit abt.org.
Cory Stearns joined ABT in 2006 and was promoted to Principal Dancer in 2010. Over the course of a 20-year career with the Company, he has performed leading roles across the full breadth of the classical and contemporary repertoire. He had planned to retire from performing at the end of the 2026 Summer season.
Cory Stearns said: "Sadly, after a meniscal injury and subsequent surgery in April, I was unable to recover in time to perform in my final ABT Met season. Onegin would have been a wonderful, fulfilling opportunity to celebrate my time with ABT-to perform once more for family, friends, colleagues, and the ABT audience. This shift in circumstance does not at all sour the gratitude I feel for the privilege of being a member of this company, and for the growth and love I've experienced pursuing my passion as my life's work. A heartfelt and enthusiastic 'thank you' to those who have supported me over the years, and to everyone who supports and appreciates this beautiful art form!"
Artistic Director Susan Jaffe said: "For twenty years, Cory Stearns has given everything to this company and to this art form. His presence on the stage is truly special and he will always be a part of ABT."
