A modern motorway to boost Türkiye's tourism, agriculture, and sustainable growth
The Black Sea Trade and Development Bank (BSTDB) is contributing to Türkiye's infrastructure development with a EUR 50 million sustainability-linked loan for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the Antalya-Alanya Motorway.
The project is being implemented by Limak İnşaat Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. (Limak), one of the leading construction companies in Türkiye, which was awarded the concession under Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model. A special purpose vehicle was established and incorporated by Limak in Türkiye for the implementation of the project.
Spanning approximately 122 km, the motorway will be one of the most important routes for Türkiye's tourism sector, where accommodation capacity represents nearly 500,000 beds. It will also strengthen agricultural trade, as the route crosses some of the country's main agricultural hubs for fruits and vegetables, which supply markets year-round.
With a total project cost of approximately EUR 2.5 billion, the new motorway will be a world-class transport corridor along Türkiye's Mediterranean coast, delivering significant benefits including enhanced road safety, shorter travel times, smoother traffic flow, and lower carbon emissions. Beyond its environmental benefits, the project is expected to generate significant development impact by creating employment opportunities during construction and operation phases, and increased tax revenues for the local and national economy.
Dr. Serhat Köksal, President of BSTDB, stated: "Modern and reliable transport infrastructure is one of the foundations for sustainable economic development and connectivity. It is our honor to be part of this project that addresses pressing transportation needs in a region experiencing rapid growth in both tourism and local traffic. We are particularly pleased that, in line with BSTDB's Climate Strategy, the project introduces sustainable transport modes with reduced CO₂emissions that are essential for Türkiye's economic development, especially in boosting tourism and trade."
Ebru Özdemir, the Chair of Limak Holding, stated: "The strong commitment from banks and financial institutions to the Antalya-Alanya Motorway Project's financing is the clearest signal of the confidence in our country, in Limak, and in the project itself. With 87% of the loan coming from international financial institutions, our project will be executed in compliance with international environmental and social standards. This commitment makes it a pioneering sustainable infrastructure investment for Türkiye. The Antalya-Alanya Motorway will drastically cut travel time and will positively contribute to the region's tourism, trade, and employment. Limak is determined, as always, to deliver the project on time, with the highest standards of quality and safety."
