On 27 October 2025, the Alliance for Zero-Emission Aviation (AZEA) held its 6th General Assembly at EUROCONTROL. Since its launch by DG DEFIS in 2022, AZEA has gathered more than 200 Members of the aviation ecosystem, ranging from aircraft manufacturers and operators, airports, energy providers, fuel suppliers, standardisation and certification bodies, as well as regulators and advocacy groups.
EUROCONTROL, a founding member of the Alliance, hosted the event for the fourth time at its Headquarters in Brussels. The General Assembly was opened by a keynote video message delivered by the member of the European Parliament's TRAN Committee Daniel Attard. The speech highlighted the role of AZEA, as well as the opportunity that zero-emission aviation brings for EU's industrial competitiveness and the need to act quickly to introduce the required adaptations in airports and in Europe's airspace.
The main objective of the 6th General Assembly of AZEA was to present the ongoing work on a Roadmap for the entire ecosystem, which represents the next milestone for the Alliance to implement the Vision on the rollout of electric and hydrogen-powered aircraft presented in June 2024. The General Assembly provided an opportunity to share with the entire membership the progress on the Roadmap's work.
The consortium formed by Deloitte and the specialised aviation consultancy To70, who has been selected by the European Commission to support this process, delivered a presentation on the first draft of the Roadmap. The final version of the Roadmap is expected to be adopted by the Alliance by the first quarter of 2026 .
At the occasion of the 6th General Assembly, the Working Groups (WGs) of the Alliance also provided an update on their ongoing activities and on their plans for 2026, to continue the work once the Roadmap has been delivered.
The General Assembly featured insightful presentations from different European Commission services, including an update on aviation policy and on the existing regulatory framework for zero-emission aviation, as well as a presentation on the Commission proposals for the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF). The European Investment Bank (EIB) was also invited to provide an update on its advisory services to support the development of cleantech and zero-emission aviation projects.
The event also included relevant external presentations on zero-emission aviation implementation projects and other initiatives from the Norwegian Civil Aviation Authority (CAA Norway), ZeroAvia, the European Regions Airline Association (ERAA), Swedavia and the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA).
These presentations illustrated the most recent developments in International Test Arena for Zero and Low-Emission Aviation in Norway, as well as the planning of hydrogen test flight demonstrations in Europe to prepare future operations and a presentation of the outcome of the discussions at ERAA's General Assembly. Two EU-funded projects focusing on the preparation of airports to accommodate zero-emission flights were also presented, namely the projects 'Green Infrastructure at Swedavia airports and ALRIGH2T.
