ATLANTA - State Representative Lynn Smith (R-Newnan), chair of the House Natural Resources and Environment Committee, was recently honored for her legislative service in the Georgia House by presiding over the House Chamber to adjourn Sine Die for the 2026 special legislative session, marking the end her final legislative term before retirement from the General Assembly.
"It has been such an honor to serve the people of Georgia and to work alongside so many dedicated public servants throughout my years in the General Assembly," said Chairlady Smith. "As my time in the Georgia House nears an end, I extend my sincere gratitude to House Speaker Jon Burns and my fellow House members for their support, partnership and shared dedication to improving the lives of all Georgians. I am especially thankful to Speaker Burns for the special opportunity to adjourn the House Sine Die and bring this chapter of my legislative service to a close. Representing the people of House District 70 has been a great privilege, and I will always be grateful for the trust they placed in me and for the opportunity to serve them in this chamber."

Chairlady Smith was sworn into the Georgia House of Representatives on January 13, 1997, marking nearly three decades of legislative service to the state of Georgia. Throughout her tenure, she has remained committed to protecting and enhancing Georgia's natural resources through her service as chair of the House Natural Resources and Environment Committee, addressing issues related to the state's land, water and environmental preservation. This will serve as her final legislative term, as she intends to retire from the Georgia House of Representatives at the conclusion of the 2025-2026 term.

Representative Lynn Smith represents the citizens of District 70, which includes portions of Carroll and Coweta counties. She was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1996 and currently serves as Chair of the Natural Resources & Environment Committee. She also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government, Creative Arts & Entertainment, Economic Development & Tourism, Reapportionment and Redistricting, Rules and Small Business Development committees, as well as the Special Committee on Resource Management.
