Deputy Minister Edmondo Cirielli, having consulted the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, has authorised a humanitarian aid package worth EUR 250,000 for the people of Nepal affected by the severe floods of 26 August. The donations will support the work of UNICEF and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
Specifically, Italy's support for UNICEF will enable immediate assistance to be provided to the affected population, with a particular focus on children and the most vulnerable families, whilst funding for IFRC will support emergency and early recovery operations in the areas of protection, assistance, health, essential goods, water and sanitation, psychosocial support and the reunification of families.
Deputy Minister Cirielli also approved the refinancing of the UNICEF's Bilateral Emergency Fund, amounting to EUR 1 million, to enable the UN agency to respond rapidly in emergency situations and sudden crises.
