Less than 48 hours after polls closed, the state's "Big Three" leaders met for nearly an hour at Speaker Rivas' office to discuss the most-pressing issues facing Californians.
SACRAMENTO - Speaker of the Assembly Robert Rivas met with Governor-elect Xavier Becerra and Senate President pro Tempore Monique Limón on Thursday afternoon to discuss issues facing Californians, the state budget, and legislative priorities.
Their meeting, less than 48 hours after polls closed, marked the three leaders' first public appearance since Becerra's historic election on Tuesday.
Speaker Robert Rivas, Senate President pro Tempore Monique Limón meet with Governor-elect Xavier Becerra at the Speaker's Capitol office in Sacramento on Thursday.
The leaders focused on four key areas: putting Proposition 1 bond dollars to work immediately so affordable housing projects can break ground without delay, protecting health coverage and access to care for Californians, stabilizing energy costs, and keeping California at the forefront of the AI economy while protecting consumers and working families.
"Voters didn't hand us a victory lap. They handed us a to-do list, and we are getting right to work," said Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas. "With the largest Democratic Caucus in modern history, the Assembly will partner with Governor-elect Becerra and pro Tem Limón to rein in costs, build more housing, and protect health care. Voters gave us a mandate. Now it's on us to lead with courage."
"Californians are facing a broad array of affordability challenges, from the cost of housing to keeping their health coverage to paying their energy bills, and they expect us to tackle them," said Governor-elect Becerra. "Today was the first of many conversations with pro Tem Limón and Speaker Rivas about how we'll work together to tackle these challenges. My mission as governor is straightforward: deliver a California we can afford, and defend a California we can't afford to lose."
"Just days after the election, it is great to have a chance to sit down and discuss the work ahead for California. This election showed us that Californians and the nation would rather choose hope over division and fear. Now we must come together to deliver for every family who calls this state home," said Senate pro Tem Monique Limón. "Californians must be able to afford to see a doctor when they need one, keep a roof over their heads, and have food on their tables. Our children deserve to receive a quality education no matter their zip code or where they grow up. I am grateful to have the opportunity to work alongside Governor-elect Becerra and Speaker Rivas as we work together to meet these challenges head-on."
