City of Napa and NVUSD Partner on Former Harvest Middle School Property Sale

At their respective meetings, the Napa City Council and the Napa Valley Unified School District's (NVUSD) Board of Education each considered and approved a purchase and sale agreement for the former Harvest Middle School property, marking a significant step forward in a collaborative partnership that will benefit the entire community.

The approved agreement will initiate an approximately 90-day escrow period, allowing the City to conduct due diligence on the site and finalize terms. This step ensures a thoughtful and transparent process before the transaction is completed. The proceeds from the $25 million sale would to be reinvested in local schools for critical facilities improvements. These improvements would help continue the transformative work made possible by Measure B. The City, in turn, would acquire a valuable site adjacent to Playground Fantastico, which presents a rare opportunity to advance multiple community priorities.

The Napa City Council identified Parks and Community Spaces as one of its key focus areas for the current budget cycle. The Harvest site aligns with this priority and supports goals outlined in the City's Parks Master Plan and 2040 General Plan, including the need for a full-size gymnasium, multi-use synthetic turf fields, and a community pool.

City Manager Steve Potter noted, "While Measure G revenue was only one component of the funding allocated for the acquisition of the Harvest Middle School site, the successful passage of Measure G gives us the confidence to move forward. It ensures we have the resources not only to invest in the development of the property, but also to sustain the programming and amenities that reflect the community's priorities and aspirations."

"We are delighted to embark on this mutually beneficial partnership with the City of Napa," said NVUSD Superintendent Dr. Rosanna Mucetti. "This sale represents a transformative opportunity for our schools and our city. Not only will the proceeds provide a monumental boost to our efforts to modernize our school facilities, but it will also allow for the creation of a new, vibrant space in the heart of our community for all to benefit from."

NVUSD Board President Eve Ryser shared her enthusiasm, "This sale is a win-win, benefiting our schools and students in South Napa and the greater Napa community, and providing our City with a promising site for our community. By working together, we are not just investing in our facilities, but in the future of our community."

"This is a transformational moment for Napa," said Scott Sedgley, Mayor of Napa. "The Harvest Middle School site allows us to invest in community spaces -one of our important focus areas-and to do so in a way that reflects the values and needs of our residents."

A celebratory "next chapter" event will be held, pending the finalization of due diligence and terms of sale. This event will provide an opportunity for community members to learn more about next steps for the property's exciting future.
