Ohio Senator Jon Husted Lies (Again) About Medicaid Cuts Arrow

Husted: "Nobody is going to lose their Medicaid coverage in our state." Meanwhile, experts predict nearly half a million Ohioans could lose health care coverage due to Husted's vote

Yesterday, Ohio Senator Jon Husted lied to Ohioans once again, falsely claiming in an interview that "Nobody is going to lose their Medicaid coverage in our state."

Of course, this was an outright lie. Nearly 490,000 Ohioans will lose their health insurance after Senator Husted voted to slash Medicaid and spike insurance costs for Ohioans - including 290,000 Medicaid recipients.

Just last week, Democrats proposed legislation that would have reversed these cuts to Medicaid - but Senator Husted voted against that bill, too.

In response to Senator Husted lying about his record of cutting Medicaid, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:

"Senator Husted is lucky he wasn't hooked up to a polygraph yesterday because his lie about voting to kick nearly half a million Ohioans off their health insurance would have broken the machine. Ohioans deserve a leader who will lower costs and protect their health care, not a dishonest politician who puts his party ahead of his constituents. Senator Husted is running scared, and Ohioans will hold him accountable by voting him out next November."

FACT: Yes, Senator - Ohioans will lose their Medicaid.

  • Nearly 490,000 Ohioans will lose their health insurance under Trump's budget bill.

FACT: Rural communities will be hit hardest.

  • Nearly 1 in 4 rural areas rely on Medicaid - and Ohio is no exception.
  • 11 rural Ohio hospitals are at risk of closing due to Trump's budget.
  • Rural communities in Ohio will lose $5.6 billion in Medicaid funds over the next 10 years.

FACT: Cuts to Medicaid remain deeply, deeply unpopular.

  • The vast majority - 71% - of Americans oppose cuts to Medicaid.
  • Over half - 55% - of Republicans oppose these cuts.
  • 73% of Independents oppose these cuts as well.
