Statement: House Republicans Continue to Fail the Nation with DHS Shutdown

WASHINGTON, DC-Rep. April McClain Delaney (MD-06) released the following statement:

"Last night, House Republicans again failed to do right by the American people. My constituents have endured significant interruptions due to the DHS shutdown. This is especially true for the many federal workers in Maryland, including our dedicated TSA, Coast Guard, and FEMA personnel, who have worked without pay for the past 42 days.

"I have long supported a deal that restores funding for these and other law-abiding agencies within DHS, including last week signing a discharge petition led by Rep. Rosa DeLauro. I will not, however, vote for any bill that gives another dollar to ICE and CBP. President Trump is using these agencies as his personal militia to unleash terror on our communities.

"Republicans, who control the White House and both chambers of Congress, know they cannot secure funding for ICE and CBP without Democratic support. Yet rather than engaging in good-faith, bipartisan negotiations, they have chosen to disregard the rule of law, reject transparency, and avoid accountability for the harm they are inflicting on our Country."
