JUNEAU, Alaska - April's statewide job count was almost level with the previous April, up by 100 jobs as government losses nearly canceled out private sector gains.

The transportation, warehousing and utilities sector added 1,200 jobs, oil and gas added 1,000 and health care gained 600.

Professional and business services and information each lost 200 jobs. Construction, wholesale and retail were flat over the year.

The federal government lost 1,900 jobs over the year, the result of deep cuts in 2025. State government was down by 600 jobs, with losses in general government and the University of Alaska. Local government, which includes public schools, was down by 200 jobs.

Alaska's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.7 percent, and the U.S rate was 4.3 percent - both unchanged from March.
