Brandeis jumps 10 spots to 59th in the U.S. News National University Rankings

Brandeis has been named among the top national universities in U.S. News & World Report's latest rankings for 2027, placing 59th among 422 institutions across the country. Notably, Brandeis was ranked highly on the Most Innovative Schools list, along with other Boston-based schools, including Harvard, MIT and Northeastern.

In addition to rising 10 places over last year's rankings, Brandeis also received high marks in the listings for undergraduate teaching, and undergraduate research and creative projects-strengths on which Brandeis is building its future.

The new rankings come as the university implements the Brandeis Plan to Reinvent the Liberal Arts, a new approach designed to connect rigorous academics with high-impact experiences, integrated academic and career advising, and clearer evidence of what students know and can do.

Through four newly created interdisciplinary schools and a reimagined core curriculum, the Plan brings the liberal arts and career readiness into closer connection. It expands access to research, internships, mentorship and other experiential learning opportunities while introducing microcredentials and a second transcript that will help students demonstrate their skills and accomplishments to employers and graduate schools.

The new 2027 rankings from US News & World Report features new lists, including the nation's Most Innovative Schools, which positioned Brandeis 19th, recognizing the university's commitment to rethinking curriculum, technology, and the student experience to meet the needs of a rapidly changing world.

The university was also ranked 36th among Private National Universities, which separates private universities listed in the National Universities category and ranks them accordingly.

The university rose 18 places to 40th for Undergraduate Teaching, which identifies institutions with a particularly strong faculty commitment to teaching undergraduates. Brandeis also rose 11 places to 42nd for Undergraduate Research and Creative Projects.

The rankings also point to strengths in faculty access, research impact and graduates' earnings. Brandeis ranked 21st nationally for its student-faculty ratio 32nd for the share of faculty research published in the top 25% of academic journals. On a new measure comparing graduates' earnings with those of graduates in similar fields, Brandeis ranked 51st in the nation.
