WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Congressman Mike Flood issued statements following news that Nebraska State Treasurer Tom Briese was stepping down and that Governor Jim Pillen had named Fremont Mayor Joey Spellerberg as the next State Treasurer.
Rep. Flood Statement on Briese's Retirement
"Thank you to State Treasurer Tom Briese for his years of service to the State of Nebraska. Before his time as State Treasurer, Tom was a voice for Nebraska's ag producers and working families in the Nebraska Unicameral where he shaped tax policy and championed pro-life legislation. In his time as State Treasurer, he pushed for property tax relief, supported successful efforts to expand the state's 529 program, and implemented one of Nebraska's first school choice programs. Best wishes to Tom and his wife Joan. Thank you for your years of public service to the state!"
Rep. Flood's Statement on Spellerberg's Appointment
"Congratulations to my good friend, Joey Spellerberg, on his appointment as the next State Treasurer. He has done an outstanding job as Mayor of Fremont and brings a broad array of experience as a community and local business leader. As our next State Treasurer, I know he will safeguard the state's finances, be an outstanding steward of Nebraska's college savings plan, and help deliver new operational efficiencies. I look forward to working with him as he steps into this important role as an advocate for our state's taxpayers."
