The Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency has named Grand Valley a top veteran-friendly school for the 11th consecutive year. GVSU received gold-level status from the MVAA, the highest level of recognition awarded by the agency.
The MVAA's Veteran-Friendly School Program recognizes academic institutions of higher learning that are committed to supporting the needs of student veterans and their dependents.
In March, the Peter Secchia Military and Veterans Resource Center introduced Virtual Hug a GI Week, allowing Grand Valley community members to send messages of support and appreciation to the veteran students on campus.

Shane Scherer, director of GVSU's Veterans Resource Center, said he is proud that the university has consistently been recognized with gold-level, veteran-friendly status.
"This honor reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting student veterans and military-connected Lakers every step of the way," Scherer said.
