The City of Greensboro's Community Safety Department (CSD) will host Peace on Purpose, a free event from 4-7 pm on Friday, June 5, at Barber Park Amphitheater, 1500 Barber Park Dr.
The fourth annual event will kick off 100 Days of Peace, a collaborative campaign involving multiple events hosted by various organizations throughout Greensboro. CSD staff will also share an update on the City's Comprehensive Community Safety Plan, which was launched at last year's event.
Held each year in early June to recognize National Gun Violence Awareness Month, Peace on Purpose brings together residents with City staff and community-based organizations, with a shared goal of reducing violence in Greensboro. Activities at the event include food, games, entertainment, and speakers.
The CSD takes a holistic, collaborative approach to improving Greensboro's public safety through community-centered prevention initiatives, crisis intervention services to help de-escalate violence, and long-term, intensive case management for individuals whose issues-such as mental health, substance use, and homelessness- have put them in frequent contact with law enforcement.
