Maine Democrats Respond to Trump's Endorsement of Florida Man Paul LePage

AUGUSTA- Maine Democratic Party Charlie Dingman released the following statement after President Donald Trump endorsed former Governor Paul LePage for Maine's 2nd Congressional District:

"Donald Trump's endorsement of Paul LePage shows exactly what Mainers would get if they send LePage to Congress: more of the same failed policies that hurt working families while billionaires and special interests profit.

"Maybe it shouldn't surprise us that one Florida man is endorsing another. LePage moved to Florida after Mainers rejected his agenda in 2018, only coming back when he wanted to run for office again. Now Trump wants to send him to Congress to represent Maine families. But LePage's record speaks for itself. He vetoed MaineCare expansion five times, then refused to implement it even after 59% of Maine voters approved it, and said he'd 'go to jail' before implementing health care that now covers over 100,000 Mainers. And he fully embraces Trump's chaotic tariff policies that have devastated Maine's forest products industry, driven up costs for families, and forced timber harvesters to shut down.

"This is the Trump-LePage billionaire-first agenda: rip healthcare away from tens of thousands of Mainers, drive up costs on working families, and give tax breaks to the wealthiest. Maine's 2nd District deserves a representative who will actually live here and fight for them.'

"The choice couldn't be clearer in 2026."
