ATLANTA - State Representative Mary Margaret Oliver (D-Decatur) recently co-sponsored House Resolution 1007, which would recognize the effectiveness of arts-based health initiatives in improving mental health outcomes.
"I enjoy working with the arts community and appreciate their interest in mental health issues," said Rep. Oliver. "We all know how important both participation in the arts and arts-based health initiatives are for the well-being and overall mental health of individuals throughout Georgia."
If adopted, HR 1007 would acknowledge the effectiveness of art-based health initiatives in improving mental health outcomes. Participation in arts-based programs has been recognized as a significant resource for promoting mental health and well-being. This resolution seeks to encourage arts interventions and arts for health initiatives as methods of improving mental health for individuals, as well as for the mental health and well-being of healthcare professionals.

State Representative Mary Margaret Oliver represents the citizens of District 84, which includes a portion of DeKalb County. She was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2002 and currently serves as Secretary of the Public & Community Health Committee. She also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Human Resources, Governmental Affairs, Judiciary, Judiciary Juvenile, MARTOC and Technology & Infrastructure Innovation committees.
