WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) today paid tribute to three fallen law enforcement officers from Mississippi who are being honored as part of 2026 National Police Week activities.

Hyde-Smith's tribute also recognizes the families, friends, and fellow officers of Jackson County Sheriff's Deputy Joshua Brashears, Hinds County Sheriff's Deputy Martin Shields, Jr., and Jackson Police Officer Bryan Pippin, who lost their lives in the line of duty. Their names have been added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, D.C.

"National Police Week serves as a solemn reminder of the courage and sacrifice shown by the men and women in law enforcement who lost their lives in service to others. This week, we set aside time to honor their memory and recognize the families, friends, and fellow officers who continue to carry their loss with strength and grace," Hyde-Smith said.

"As we remember those we have lost, we also must continue supporting those who serve today. That means ensuring law enforcement has the tools, resources, and support needed to do their jobs safely and effectively, while also showing appreciation for their sacrifices," the Senator added. "To every officer serving our communities, know that we recognize your service and the sacrifices inherent with ensuring public safety."

Brashears, Shields, and Pippin are among the names of 363 officers killed in the line of duty who were memorialized this year.

Hyde-Smith is an original cosponsor of the Back the Blue Act (S.3366), which would increase penalties for criminals who attack law enforcement officers, federal judges, or other federal public safety officers. This legislation has been endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), National Association of Police Organizations (NAPO), Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA), Major County Sheriffs of America (MCSA), National Narcotic Officers' Associations' Coalition (NNOAC), Association of State Criminal Investigative Agencies (ASCIA), and the Sergeants Benevolent Association NYPD.
