Willow Springs Road over I-55 bridge repairs begin July 27

CHICAGO - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that repairs to the bridge carrying Willow Springs Road over the Stevenson Expressway (Interstate 55) in Countryside will begin, weather permitting, Monday, July 27. ​

To complete the work, the public should expect various overnight lane closures in both directions of I-55 from east of Countyline Road to La Grange Road (U.S. 12/20/45). At least one lane in each direction will remain open during construction.

Additionally, next month an overnight full closure of the inbound lanes on I-55 will be required to install steel beams over the expressway. The schedule and impacts to traffic will be shared closer to the closure date. ​ ​

The repairs are expected to be completed in late August. ​

The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Alternate routes are encouraged. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
