President Gitanas Nausėda met with King Philippe of the Belgians in Brussels.
The President and the King discussed the development of bilateral relations between Lithuania and Belgium, the security situation in Europe, support for Ukraine, and other pressing issues on the international agenda.
Gitanas Nausėda emphasized that Lithuania and Belgium are bound by close political, economic, cultural and security ties. He thanked Belgium for its consistent contribution to strengthening security in the Baltic region and across NATO's eastern flank. Belgium was the first NATO ally to launch a Baltic Air Policing mission in Lithuania and continues to make an active contribution to the Alliance's deterrence and defense efforts in the region.
The meeting also focused on opportunities to expand cooperation in the fields of the economy, science and innovation, as well as on strengthening ties in high technology, cybersecurity, life sciences, the defense industry and energy. The President reaffirmed Lithuania's commitment to deepening cooperation with Belgium in innovation and advanced technologies, thereby contributing to Europe's competitiveness and resilience.
President Gitanas Nausėda and the King of the Belgians also discussed the importance of preserving historical memory in Europe and strengthening cultural ties. The President noted that fostering a shared European historical memory is an important prerequisite for reinforcing the unity of democratic nations and strengthening resilience against falsification of history.
