Prepare Your Pet for Hurricane Season at Upcoming Clinic

Free Microchip and Rabies Vaccines for Tallahassee-Leon County Pets on April 12

April 03, 2026

The City of Tallahassee is encouraging residents to prepare their pets for hurricane season during its Animal Services Hurricane Preparedness Clinic on Sunday, April 12, from 8-10 a.m. at the Animal Service Center, 1125 Easterwood Drive.

The free clinic will offer rabies vaccines, microchips, ID tags and pet hurricane kits, to help ensure pets have proper identification and protection in the event of an emergency. In 2025, the clinic served 214 pets.

Services will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis for Tallahassee and Leon County residents only. Dogs must be on a leash, cats must be in carriers and all pets must be at least 3 months old.

Rabies vaccines and microchips will be administered by veterinarians from nine local Tallahassee veterinary hospitals. Shelter staff and volunteers will also be on-site to assist pet owners with paperwork and guide them through the clinic.

This event is offered in partnership with Banfield Gives Back and helps expand access to essential veterinary care for pet owners to prepare for hurricane season. Proper identification, current vaccinations and emergency planning can all play a critical role in helping pets stay safe and be reunited with their families if disaster strikes. Pet owners should also know what to pack for their animals in advance of a hurricane. A pet packing list is available in the City's Step by Step Prep Guide.
