EXCERPTS OF REMARKS AS PREPARED

Working Families Tax Cuts Delivered $170B for Border Security and Shut Down Illegal Immigration

"Eight months ago today, President Trump signed into law the Working Families Tax Cuts.

"At the time, we knew the law would be a massive win for the American people. And in the months since, Republicans have been proven right.

"It provided a $150 billion investment in our national defense. That investment has been vital as our brave service members work day and night to defend our nation from the largest state sponsor of terrorism in the world.

"It provided $170 billion for border security, including funding to complete the border wall, build new detention facilities, and hire more agents.

"In the months since, not a single illegal alien has been admitted into our country.

"This funding has been especially crucial to maintain our border enforcement as Democrats continue their partial shutdown of DHS."

'Working Families Tax Cuts' Delivered Financial Relief for Workers, Seniors, and Families

"When I talk with Tennesseans, though, the part of the law they are most excited about is the tax cuts.

"True to its name, the Working Families Tax Cuts delivered the largest tax relief for Americans in history. It prevented a $4 trillion tax hike.

"While these provisions went into effect last year, most Americans are only beginning to benefit from them with the start of the 2026 tax season.

"Through the law, I was honored to deliver a $6,000 bonus deduction for our seniors-eliminating taxes on Social Security for 88 percent of recipients.

"This is a matter of fairness. American workers spend a lifetime paying into the Social Security program through tax withholdings. Why should they have to pay taxes on income funded through their taxes? It makes no sense to tax taxes.

"With the provision, seniors will save an average of $670 this year. Some could save as much as $1,300.

"For Americans on fixed income, these savings will help them pay for medicine, food, gas, and other expenses.

"For millions of workers, we also lowered taxes on tips and overtime. Americans who go the extra mile deserve to benefit from their hard work-and these provisions ensure that happens.

"With the new tips deduction, single filers will see an average savings of $1,370. Some could save as much as $5,500.

"And with the new overtime deduction, filers will see $1,440 in average savings.

"While supporting workers, the law delivers historic tax relief and benefits for families."
