Tenable® (NASDAQ: TENB), the exposure management company, today announced that Fukuoka Hibiki Shinkin Bank has deployed Tenable Identity Exposure and Tenable Cloud Security to proactively view and eliminate risks in its Active Directory (AD) and improve its overall cloud security posture.
Fukuoka Hibiki Shinkin Bank, established in 1924, is a Japanese community bank headquartered in Kitakyushu. It serves Fukuoka Prefecture and surrounding regions like Shimonoseki and Nakatsu, engaging closely with the community through various services. The bank was concerned about potential misconfigurations within its self-managed AD environment and cloud services, noting that annual penetration tests were insufficient to provide continuous visibility into evolving risks.
"As we are entrusted with our customers' assets, maintaining cyber hygiene is a prerequisite for our operation," said Atsushi Yoshida, Executive Officer, General Manager of Systems Department & Head of DX Promotion Office, Fukuoka Hibiki Shinkin Bank. "We understood that diligent patching alone isn't enough; if security issues were present in the configuration, Active Directory could be taken over by an attacker. We knew a specific measure was necessary to meet regulatory guidelines and protect our network, cloud and identity environments."
Tenable Identity Exposure was selected for its agentless, continuous monitoring of Active Directory - the bank's immediate priority - while also extending protection to hybrid and cloud identity systems. The solution uncovers toxic combinations of poor hygiene, misconfigurations, and excessive privileges that attackers exploit for lateral movement and escalation. Alongside this, the bank deployed Tenable Cloud Security to enforce controls across Microsoft 365 and beyond.
Upon deployment, Tenable Identity Exposure provided immediate value by visualising risks on an easy-to-use dashboard. The solution instantly identified approximately 200 dormant accounts that had accumulated over the system's 20-year history.
"The immediate impact of the visibility was eye-opening," said Masayuki Miyaji, Senior Analyst, Systems Department, Fukuoka Hibiki Shinkin Bank. "To instantly see critical exposures accumulated over the years was a powerful demonstration of what we were missing. Acting on that information immediately has improved our security hygiene and our confidence in defending our Active Directory environment."
"Attackers frequently target Active Directory to gain a foothold into an organisation, and financial institutions are a prime target," said Naoya Kishima, Country Manager, Tenable Japan. "As these institutions expand their services into the cloud, the attack surface grows. Tenable provides continuous visibility to disrupt attack paths across both identity and cloud environments, which is critical for an institution like Fukuoka Hibiki Shinkin Bank. We are proud to support their comprehensive approach to exposure management."
