Denver Asking for Feedback to Shape the City's Next Climate Plan

The City and County of Denver is inviting the community to help shape the city's next Climate Plan, which is updated every five years. The city has launched a bilingual survey to gather input from community members, workers and visitors and ensure the updated plan reflects community priorities and lived experiences.

You can find the Denver Climate Plan survey online in English and in Spanish at www.denvergov.org/ClimatePlan. The survey will remain open until midnight on Friday, August 14.

The updated Climate Action Plan will outline how Denver will continue reducing pollution, expanding clean energy and preparing neighborhoods for growing climate risks such as extreme heat, drought and poor air quality.

Denverites are already experiencing the impacts of a changing climate-from hotter summers and wildfire smoke to rising insurance costs, higher energy bills and more frequent extreme heat. As Colorado experiences another exceptionally hot year, community feedback will help identify the actions that matter most to Denverites and ensure the city's climate investments continue addressing local needs.

"Even in the face of declining federal investment, Denver is continuing to invest in protecting the places and people we love from the threat of climate change," said Elizabeth Babcock, Director of Denver's Office of Climate Action, Sustainability and Resiliency. "Community input will help ensure that our climate work focuses on what matters most and supports every neighborhood in becoming healthier, more affordable and more resilient."

Denver's greenhouse gas emissions continued to decline in 2025, dropping a projected 4.5% and contributing to an overall 20% reduction since 2019 and 36% since 2015. These sustained reductions reflect strong progress in clean energy, electrification, and efficiency. The grid serving Denver keeps getting cleaner, and more residents and businesses are adopting all-electric solutions to heat and cool their buildings.

Denver's climate leadership continues to earn national and global recognition. In Spring 2026, Denver became one of only eight cities across the world to achieve LEED Platinum status for implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions aimed at improving sustainability and the standard of living for community members. Since 2022, the American Council for an Energy Efficient-Economy (ACEEE) has ranked Denver #2 nationally for clean energy policies.

The updated Climate Action Plan will build on that progress while identifying priorities for the next five years. The draft Climate Action Plan will be presented to City Council in early December.
