Compliance Chat: Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer

Compliance Chat: Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer

April 17, 2026

New ideas are created every day across the University of Alaska. Some turn into publications, some into software or tools, and others grow into discoveries with real world impact far beyond the campus. This Chat shows how early awareness and the right conversations help protect ideas, avoid costly missteps, and keep the university moving forward responsibly.

This is the final video in the Research Compliance Chat series and focuses on intellectual property and technology transfer, and why early coordination with university offices matters for researchers, staff, and students across the UA system. In this episode, Mary Gower, Senior Institutional Compliance Liaison, is joined by David Park, Director of the Office of Intellectual Property and Commercialization at UAF, and Aaron Menshouse, Research Security Manager in the Office of Research Integrity.

In this Chat, viewers get a behind-the-scenes look at when and why to connect with offices that work with research compliance and innovation to protect their work and meet compliance and grant requirements. It reinforces a simple message: staying connected with the right offices early and often helps reduce risk, preserve funding, and keep projects moving forward responsibly.
