Crews have made significant progress clearing Greensboro roadways this week, despite icy conditions and freezing overnight temperatures.
The City has cleared the entire Priority 1 street network of approximately 1,800 miles to bare pavement. Priority 1 streets include multi-lane and high-traffic roadways and account for nearly 75% of Greensboro's 2,500-mile street network. Most of this work was completed on Monday and Tuesday.
The majority of the Priority 2 network, totaling 524 miles, has also been cleared to bare pavement. These collector streets connect major roadways to neighborhoods and were largely completed on Tuesday and Wednesday.
All 727 miles of Priority 3 streets, which include residential and neighborhood streets, have been plowed at least once, with many receiving multiple passes.
Crews continue to apply calcium chloride and use motor graders in targeted icy areas. These treatments enable crews to reach bare pavement conditions where plowing and salting are not effective.
Trash and Recycling Collections
Trash and recycling collection did not occur on Monday and Tuesday; however, crews have been working throughout the week to complete delayed routes.
One hundred percent of passable roads have been completed for solid waste pickup. If carts are not collected by end of business today, residents are asked to remove the cart from the curb to be picked up next week.
All commercial and multi-family routes are completed.
Next week's bulk and yard waste routes will be suspended and will resume on February 9.
Weekend Preparations
As crews have continued clearing operations this week, much of the roadway network has already been salted.
Snow plows are mobilizing today in preparation of the weekend weather event. The City's targets for removing snow are:
-
90% of Priority 1 routes within 36 hours of the end of the snow storm
-
75% of Priority 2 routes within 48 hours of the end of the snow storm
-
75% of Priority 3 routes within 72 hours of the end of the snow storm
The City's salt and calcium chloride supplies are being replenished. All equipment is operational, and crews are prepared to continue response efforts as conditions warrant throughout the weekend.
If snow accumulations are observed on the roadway, the snow removal map will be reset. It is available from the City website, or here:
