ALTOONA, Pa. - Brian Black, distinguished professor of history and environmental studies at Penn State Altoona, was a presenter at the Extractive Natures/Natures of Extraction workshop held at the University of Bristol in Bristol, England, in early November.

The forum explored methodological approaches to studying various forms of environmental extraction beyond the traditional focus on mineral and organic materials.

Black's lecture was titled "The Power of Extraction: Understanding our Energy Transition Through the Places Sacrificed."

Of the dozen speakers, Black was the only one from the United States.
